On 25th September, Keane podcast Beyond The Iron Sea hosted the first public playback of Perfect Symmetry, as part of "An Evening with Beyond The Iron Sea". Here's how it all happened...
We announced the evening on the Beyond The Iron Sea podcast (episode 16, 19th August 2008) and put up a teaser page on our site.
We got some plugs from some cool people, including... Planet Sound (Teletext and website), popular blog ArjanWrites and official site keanemusic.com
We drew some names out of a hat.
We kept the venue a secret until the last minute, before giving people a handy video to show them that it would be at 229 Great Portland Street.
A big mix of people turned up - male, female, labrador, young, not as young; with natives from Scotland, Belgium, Germany, Canada, USA, and Israel all representing.
We played some of our favourite songs, and gave out programmes for people to read. Download the programme (PDF).
We sold some t-shirts.
We played some of the influences Keane have cited during the making of the album, and played some of the YouTube clips on our screen.
We played the 'making of' documentary from the bonus DVD.
We got up on stage and played the album. Twice.
People filled in questionnaires about the album. Download the questionnaire (PDF).
We all had a fun time!
Do you wish you'd bought a snazzy t-shirt? Well, here's your chance to own a piece of classic Keane/BTIS merch. Available in two designs and 5 different sizes, these t-shirts are strictly limited edition (and thus highly collectable!).
T-shirts cost just £10 (GBP), which includes delivery to anywhere in the world.
During the playback, fans scored the tracks in our handy questionnaires (download the PDF questionnaire). Want to know what the most popular track was? The least? How did people rate the album? You can view the full scores here:
In the questionnaire we asked fans, "For organising this evening: I think Andrew and Chris are:"...
This was an event by Andrew and Chris, producers of the Beyond The Iron Sea podcast, in association with both Keane and their record label Island (cheers guys!).
Chris and Andrew would like to extend huge thanks to... Jen, Mart, Hannah, Vanky; Mandy, Kerry; Stuart, Ed; Jason, Scoot, Jon, Adam and the band.
Beyond The Iron Sea is an almost weekly podcast about all things Keane (filled with exclusive news, in-depth discussion and analysis, speculation, and childish humour), hosted by Chris and Andrew. As fans since 2003 and 2004, they like Keane quite a bit. Click to subscribe on iTunes or you can download it from beyondtheironsea.com
